In the name of Allah. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon the Prophet.This piece is to introduce to the Muslim Ummah, a newly founded relief fund established by the Muslim Students' Society of Nigeria, Ilorin Central Branch. The name of the fund is OASIS MUSLIM CARE FUND (OMCF). The idea of this project was borne out of the need to cater for many Muslims who find themselves in extremely difficult situations owing to ill health, death of spouse and other trying circumstances. In the past, we have been forced out of desperation to beg for money from Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Recently we had the case of a brother who needed 3.5 million naira for the treatment of his 3 year old chest ailment. There was also the case of little Abdullah Ibrahim (2 year old boy) who needed a similar amount to treat the brain tumour which had affected his eyes. Unfortunately, we eventually lost little Abdullah. Not too long ago, a brother died in Lagos due to a heart problem for which he needed about the same amount to treat abroad. Yakub Mahabub was a 2 month old baby with a hole in the heart from birth. His parents needed just 1 million naira to fly him to India for treatment but unfortunately, he too died before the money could be raised. Perhaps, he could have survived if the money was already available. There are also several cases of widows and orphans that need to be taken care of… and the list goes on! There are very few Muslim organisations that engage in causes like this, one of the most prominent being Muslim Public Affairs Center (MPAC) . In order to reduce the burden of such organisations and individuals who are constantly being approached for funds, a project like this becomes imperative. Allah has promised the believers in the Qur’an that he will always test their faith: “And surely We shall try you with something of fear and hunger, and loss of wealth and lives and crops; but give glad tidings to the steadfast.” Qur’an 2: 155. We should therefore expect cases like those mentioned above to occur from time to time. Therefore, we ought to prepare for such happenings. We expect kind-hearted individuals like you to make a pledge of donating any token amount to this fund.
