Khalid Abdulrasheed Afolabi is a 2 year old boy who has been unable to talk and hear from birth, a condition known as SNHL (sensorineural hearing loss). After several tests conducted at Nigerian Army Audiological Centre, Lagos and at the National Hospital, Abuja, he was diagnosed as having bilateral profound SNHL of congenital aetiology.
This huge sum is too much for the parents to bear alone and that is why we are joining them in seeking the assistance of kind-hearted individuals in raising the funds for the treatment. It is saddening to see this handsome and bright-looking boy not being able to speak or hear like his contemporaries. He only communicates through visual cues and lip reading. His parents have been advised that he needs to have a cochlear implantation in order to correct this condition. The total cost implication of the treatment has been approximately put at 5 million naira (N5,000,000) covering the cost of cochlear implant and speech processor, remote assistant, surgery, admission and post-implant speech therapy.
